About Nebo First Lego League Robotics
The Nebo Elementary Department of Fine Arts Technology Program will sponsor several
First Lego League teams for the 2011-2012 school year.
The First Lego League is a team competition that features a research project and a robotics tournament where students create a robot that completes specific tasks built around a theme. The "FIRST" organization was founded by Dean Kamen (the inventor of automated wheelchairs and the Segway device) to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. This year's theme is "Food Factor." The date of the 1st round of competition is either Saturday December 3rd, or Saturday December 10th. The regional and State competitions are in January, and the National Championship is in April. Nebo FLL Teams have advanced to the State Championship Tournaments in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The 2010 Nebo FLL teams scored in the top 10 teams in Georgia. We look forward to continuing Nebo's fine tradition of excellence in Robotics.
Nebo FLL Registration Fees
The rules of First Lego League stipulate that a team may be made up of no more than 10 students.
These students must be committed to working towards the success of the team.
This year we will charge a fee of $60 per student.
The $60 fee will cover the following costs per team: (Based on a 7 student team)
Team Registration with FLL (~$260 per team)
1st Tournament Fee: ($50 per team)
T-Shirt for Student ($15 per student)
Food for Party ($50 per team)
My goal is to have no more than 7 students per FLL team and have three to four teams. We will create as many FLL teams as we have students sign up. Nebo FLL is open to 4th through 8th Grade Students attending Paulding County Public Schools. Regular practices will start on Monday, August 8th.
Nebo FLL Teams and Practice Times
The Nebo FLL teams will practice according to the following Schedule:
-FLL Team A (number TBD): Mondays: 4:00 to 5:30 PM (Elementary Team)
-FLL Team B (number TBD): Tuesdays: 2:30 to 4:00 PM (Elementary Team)
-FLL Team C (number TBD): Tuesdays: 4:30 to 6:00 PM (Middle School Team)
-Research Project Day (All Teams): Thursdays: 4:00 to 5:00 PM
Attendance will be required at all practices to remain on the Nebo FLL teams. Any unexcused absence will result in removal from the team. Students will be allowed excused absences with parent notes. If a student has more that 2 excused absences, they may be removed from the team. These policies exist to provide a fair basis due to limited team numbers and the short duration of the FLL season.
Nebo FLL Registration
Please sign and return the Nebo FLL Registration Form and payment to
Mr. Michaud as soon as possible. Payment must be made in check or money
order made out to "Nebo Elementary School." Please put "FLL 2011" and student name
in the memo area of the check. We will not be able to accept cash.
